Inanity. Abbreviated.

2011-10-29T13:49: Site Work

First site: home. Will be mowing the back yard for the final time today, while it's sunny, and maybe doing the front too just to mulch the leaves. Might leave the front another week or two until the tree next door is done, not sure yet. Will get started after Northwestern hopefully holds on against Indiana.  (59-31 now, but I never know about this team in the fourth quarter.)

Second site: derr.us. I haven't been getting any actual support from eNetSouth for a long time. Today some new issues at this data center have been publicized, and while my VPS is up, it's an extra incentive to move the site. I have another server that's been up and running for a long time, just backing up everything here, so I can just flip things around. Then I'll be looking for another home for either a backup or a main site. Would kind of like to have a new server in or near Chicago, like this one is, but there's no real issue with running the site out of Miami where my other one is.

I expect I'll be lazy and have some downtime while I switch, so don't be surprised if either the site is down or if it loses comments posted tonight.

2011-10-26T13:05: Pre-checkup

208.8 this morning. Getting ready to head to the physician (is that applicable to a CNP?) Friday. Also, having discovered a few weeks ago that I can physically do a sit-up, on rung 2 of the Hacker's Diet exercise ladder.

2011-10-21T21:13: All Clear

All payments that went out twice last weekend have been arranged as next month's payments. Turns out that's the default for the auto loan, although not for the mortgage. After seeing my post, Citibank helped me confirm that nothing could be reversed so I could get started on talking to the recipients sooner, which was of some value. And they helped me finish up my savings account re-opening. A few hours were lost but no money, so all is well.

I need to link my new savings account to my other bank and update records in jGnash, neither of which is urgent.

2011-10-19T20:10: World Series of Measurements

(No deep meaning; I just hate doing post titles most of the time.)

  • Neck: 17½"
  • Chest: 41½"
  • Bicep: 13½"
  • Stomach: 41"
  • Waist: 37"
  • Hips: 40½"
  • Thigh: 20 - 24¾"
  • Weight: 209.8#

A lot of eights came up in the actual measurements, so those were rounded one way or another based on whether they were through a moderately thick shirt or not. I know, I missed a month of measurements and a week of weigh-ins, so comparisons have to go vs. August and 10/5.

2011-10-19T17:02: Valuble

Nothing says "valuble customer" like an email starting with "Dear Valuble Customer".

2011-10-17T13:32: Citibank Inanity

Instead of just keeping their account options simple, my bank wanted to price everyone out of an obsolete account type so they'd switch to a new one. What had been the basic no-fee checking account when I got it in 2000 got a $1,500 minimum balance last year and moves to a $6,000 minimum next month. So I asked to change my account to the new account type with a $1,500 minimum balance. This got done last week without too much apparent fuss.

After the change, I noticed that all my scheduled payments were gone. OK, I thought, that's a consequence of changing the account type. While the account number stays the same, the internal ID must be new (thought the programmer) so the links were gone. So I went through my history (a.k.a. check register) and wrote down all the payments that I knew were recurring. Then I entered them prior to the next ones coming up on the 16th, i.e. the day after my mid-month paycheck hits.

Today I logged on just to pay the water bill and found red text I'm not used to seeing: an overdrawn checking account. Turns out they helpfully restored all those old payments in time for both my old and new payments to be processed yesterday. Of course, the 16th is the biggest day of the month, with over $3,000 going out to various places including my mortgage and car note holders. Since it takes them three days to respond to a message online — and I can't call without a "telephone access code" I don't have — I'm sure nothing can be done. If I'm lucky I can get some or all of the payees to handle the extra payment as next month's minimum. If not, I'm technically not out any money, but I will have used some cash reserves that need to be rebuilt. I would probably shorten my mortgage by 6-7 months and save a nice amount of interest by letting that one go, for example, but the benefits in 2038 don't help cashflow this month.

Oh well, if I thought another bank would actually be any different I'd switch, but this kind of mistake is just going to happen. I still have to do something with my savings account (which can't simply be switched over like the checking account) but soon this should all be over and I'll have another 5+ uneventful years of banking.

2011-10-07T16:30: To Basics

Confirming with my bank that yes, I want to switch to the "basic" account package with its $1,500 minimum (fee-less) balance from my deprecated "EZ" account package with its newly raised $6,000 mininum balance. Yes, I understand that this requires opening a boring "savings" account at 0.05% APY and closing my snazzy "money market" account that is getting me 0.06% APY.

2011-10-07T11:28: Ginaaa!

The DJ in my head is mixing together the themes from Martin and Sanford and Son. And now it's in your head. You're welcome.

2011-10-05T09:33: Slope -0.2

213.4, and Libra may have decided that I will only approach my goal asymptotically. Since I only gave it an intermediate goal, that's not good.
